Project Organizers, Partners, Volunteers & Friends

The project is jointly organized by two humanitarian organizations:

Alliance Burundaise pour la Coopération et le Développement  (ABCD)

ABCD, the lead organization, is a Burundian humanitarian, non-profit organization registered under ordinance #530-212 of the Government of Burundi.  It is engaged in promoting integrated community development and is currently organizing projects that will assist the reintegration and demobilization of ex-combatants, both rebel and military.  ABCD's principal activity is implementing the program "Heart-of-Africa, Rehabilitation of the Goat Sector-Burundi".  This activity is coordinated with AHP, described below.

Austrian Help Program (AHP) http://www.ahp.or.at/ahp1/

Founded and incorporated in 1996,.  AHP is registered as an international, non-profit/non-taxable organization under the Government of Austria with registration #VR-56/96.  AHP's purpose is to provide emergency relief, rehabilitation and development to victims of natural disasters and civil conflicts and to poor and vulnerable populations.  The principal local partner of AHP in Burundi is the Alliance Burundaise pour la Coopération et le Développement  (ABCD), with whom they are collaborating in  implementing the Heart of Africa program for rehabilitating the goat sector

SOME OF OUR STAFF
Key to our field work are our veterinary technicians and herders, shown below.  Other technical and administrative staff – one American and five Burundians – are located in Bujumbura as well as upcountry.  Soon, we'll put up a picture of all of our staff – though it's not easy to get everyone together in one place at the same time!

Herders preparing to move young does to a safe house during a period of fighting and robbery near the Project compound in 2003.

Project field staff in the compound:  Veterinary Technician, Para Veterinarian, Carpenter/Gardener, and herders.

FRIENDS HELPING WITH THE WEBPAGE

Others who have provided technical assistance to the Project – or who have critiqued webpage content - are sincerely thanked and will be listed here.  Given our isolated circumstances, this feedback and collaboration  is invaluable!

Final responsibility for page content rests, of course, with project organizers.
